Day 6 - God is All Knowing
Read Psalm 139:1-6
This portion of the psalm speaks not only of the reality that God is all-knowing but that God knows me! And not only that God knows me but God desires to know me. This truth overwhelms King David as he later declares, “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them (Psalm 139:17)!”
God knows every minute detail about us. God sees and knows everything we are doing within our days even the things we would not want Him to know. The Spirit says through the Psalmist, “He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see (Psalm 94:9)?” Every lover of God must be profoundly aware of God’s divine involvement in their lives.
God not only knows every word we speak, He knows every thought we have. This speaks to the deep intimate knowledge God has of us. God knows why we feel the way we do. God knows why we are sorrowful, why we are joyous, God knows what offends us, and God knows our graces. God knows our thought patterns if they are unhealthy if they are self-centered or self-seeking. God knows the battle of our minds and how the enemy attacks us. God knows the things we think that we would never say out loud. This is why God calls for man to “forsake his thoughts” (Isaiah 55:7). It is a sad commentary on how God’s thoughts toward us are precious but our thoughts toward Him can be evil.
The idea of God “hedging us in” speaks of God’s protection over our lives. As disciples of Jesus, the truth of the matter is we are in God’s hands! Nothing happens to us without God’s oversight. God’s managed care for our lives should bring us to a place of surrender and gratitude. God will allow us to keep hitting a brick wall until we acknowledge him in all our ways. May we come to the place of sweet surrender to the God who knows us better than we know ourselves.
